Driving Instructors Test
The Driving Instructor Check Test (ADI-approved Driving Instructor)can be carried out at random by an ADI examiner. The Driving Instructor check test will last approximately 1 hour and during that time you will be expected to successfully complete the 16 core competencies. The pupil you use to carry out the test can have their full licence, or you may wish to use a real pupil you on your lesson. Either way you must achieve the standard of tuition as required by the RSA examiner.
It is recommended that you arrive at your chosen test centre approximately 10 minutes before your Driving Instructor check test. Brief your pupil about what lesson you are going to carry out. The pupil may wait in the car chosen by you to conduct the test in. The examiner will call you in at the appointed time and ask to see your licence/permit. If all is in order the examiner will then ask you what the aim and objective of the lesson is and what subskills you hope to achieve by the end of the lesson. You will be asked to sign and date your statement, and asked if you have any questions. Then both you and the examiner will walk to your car and you will introduce the examiner to your pupil. The examiner will check the lights on the vehicle, along with the tax, insurance and NCT cert if applicable.
The examiner will explain to your pupil not to worry as only the Driving Instructor is being check tested. You will then conduct the driving lesson as normal trying to achieve the object of the lesson. Upon completion of the driving lesson you will have the opportunity to ask the examiner any questions you may have. The examiner will also explain to you if there are any areas which you may need to improve upon.
If you are unsuccessful you will be asked to repeat the Driving Instructor check test again within 4 weeks. This is ample time for you to improve any aspects of your lesson plan that may be required.
Good luck.
